Use and customs in Italy

Italians are more formal than most foreigners imagine. Generally greetings are  enthusiastic yet rather formal. When you’re introduced to an italian, you should say ‘hello’ and shake hands.  When you’re introduced in a formal situation, it’s common say “pleased to meet you”.  Hello is used among  friends and young people, but it is considered polite when tourist use it. At present kiss on the hand is rare, while is frequent see young people kiss other on the cheek. It’s also usually to say good day or good evening when go into shop, and to say good day or goodbye when leave. Good morning (buon giorno) should become good evening (buona sera) after the lunch break, around 1 pm, but that isn’t a imperative. Italians are guided by first impression, so it’s important demonstrate propriety and respect, especially when you meet them for the first time.
